Duties

Perform installations and leads team of 2 – 10 installers during installations at communications facilities such as telephone exchanges, central offices, microwave stations, Technical Control Facilities (TCF), satellite facilities, wireless installations, transmission and broadcast facilities, control and monitor facilities. Supervises, leads and trains installation team members in proper installation practices such as install, terminate and integrate telecommunications cabling infrastructure for inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) facilities; install cable ladders, ducts, terminal blocks, Intermediate Distribution Blocks (IDF) and perform work in Main Distribution Frames (MDF). As well as installation of communications cabinets/racks; terminate and connect power, ground and signal cabling to communications cabinets/equipment as indicated in engineering installation plans (EIP). Identify team’s weak areas, provides training and/or recommends training to correct deficient areas. Reviews, provides feedback and interpret Engineering Installation Package (EIP) in order to receive and inventory bill of material (BOM), follow installation instructions, understand and follows cable running lists and red-lines installation drawings to show final installed configuration. Provide status reports during the implementation of the project, BOM status, personnel status and associated logistical support to the Project Manager or Program Manager.

Experience Details

Required Skills: Six years of installation experience of which four must be with US Government Department of Defense (DoD) installations. Able to read and interpret EIP, schedules, designs, cable running lists, and plans. Communicates well and provides installation guidance and direction to installers. Takes direction from program management staff and provides feedback on installation progress. Consults with engineers and ensures correct installation of equipment and optimum utilization of resources. Basic computer skills with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook are required to communicate, maintain logs and provide reports from installation locations. Must have knowledge and comply with industry standards such as NEMA, NEC, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA and others. Travel more than 75% of the time. Be able to work in a team environment, lead and motivate the team, accept direction from program management staff and communicate effectively. Must have initiative and be able to work with minimal supervision. Must be organized, maintain the work area clean and present a neat appearance. At times projects require extended hours and/or weekend work.

Desired Skills: Posses experience with a broad variety of installations, OSP and ISP. Trainer and mentor - teams of installers, train them and help them grow the installation skills required to meet and exceed Industry and MIL standards during installations at telecommunications facilities. Has experience with multi-pair copper wire-wrap and/or solder, to include and fiber optic cable splicing. Have working knowledge with aerial cables, large satellite antenna systems, radio installation on towers and alignment of microwave antennas. Knowledge and/or experience with integration of digital transmission equipment.

Education Details Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related scientific or technical discipline plus 10 years of experience. 10 years of direct relevant technical experience may be substituted for education plus 10 years of experience.
